Proper Care for Your Merino Suit

Take care of your high-quality merino wool garment after use. Often, simply airing it out is enough, and stains can be wiped away with a damp cloth. Wool contains lanolin, a natural wool fat that naturally repels dirt. Avoid washing wool garments too frequently.

All wool garments in the collection are made from high-quality 3D twill merino wool fabric containing 98% merino wool and 2% elastane. The wool fiber originates from Australia and New Zealand. The fabric is woven in the Biella region of Italy.

Hang after use
Hang your jacket on a wide-shouldered hanger that properly supports the shoulder area. Never use thin wire hangers at home, as they can stretch the fabric and distort the shape of the shoulders.

Hang trousers upside down from the cuffs on a trouser hanger. The weight of the trousers will naturally help smooth the fabric overnight.

Air and brush occasionally
Wool fabric loves fresh air and even freezing temperatures. Airing helps refresh the wool and remove odors.
Brush the fabric with a soft clothing brush in the same direction from top to bottom. Brushing removes loose dirt from the surface without needing to wash the garment too often.

Wipe with a damp cloth
If stains appear on the fabric surface, wipe them as soon as possible with a lint-free sponge or cloth dampened with clean water. Dried stains should be cleaned according to the washing instructions.

Washing Wool Garments

The wool trousers Seppo and Sampo in the collection can be machine washed at home. The fully unlined Jesse shirt jacket can also be machine washed according to the instructions.
The Jere blazer, which has viscose sleeve lining, must be taken to a dry cleaner. Garments made from materials that behave differently in washing cannot be washed in water. In addition, very few people know how to properly iron or steam a blazer after washing, so it is best to leave the job to a professional.

Machine washing: Seppo, Sampo and Jesse

  • Turn the garments inside out before washing
  • Use a detergent designed for wool with a neutral pH of 7–9
  • The detergent must not contain enzymes, as they damage wool fibers
  • Dose the detergent according to the instructions on the package
  • Water in Finland is generally soft, so follow the dosing instructions for soft water
  • Usually 30–35 ml (about 2 tablespoons) is enough (1 tbsp = 15 ml)
  • If you are washing only a few items, reduce the amount of detergent

Hand washing

  • Turn the garments inside out before washing
  • Wash in plenty of water
  • One tablespoon of detergent is enough for a single garment
  • Use lukewarm, hand-warm water
  • The rinsing water should be about the same temperature; the final rinse can be cold
  • You may soak the garment briefly if there are stubborn or dried stains
  • Gently move the garment in the water; no need for heavy rubbing
  • Rinse several times so that no detergent remains in the fabric
  • You may spin the garment in a washing machine at about 700 rpm
  • Shape the garment while damp by smoothing wrinkles and shaking it a few times
  • Dry on a hanger
  • Stains can be cleaned locally without washing the entire garment

Machine washing

  • Turn the garments inside out before washing
  • Select the wool wash program on the washing machine
  • Remember to dose the detergent correctly
  • If you are washing fewer items than a full load, reduce the detergent amount
  • If you accidentally add too much detergent, run an extra rinse cycle
  • Shape the garment while damp by smoothing wrinkles and shaking it a few times
  • Dry on a hanger

Tumble Drying
Do not tumble dry wool garments, as it damages the wool fibers and shortens the lifespan of the clothing.

Ironing and Steaming
Garments that have been washed in water should be ironed on medium heat after washing from the inside out. This helps the fabric return to its original shape and size. The garment can be slightly damp to make ironing easier.

Wrinkles in wool fabric can also be removed effectively by steaming. A dry garment can easily be steamed with a handheld garment steamer. Deep creases may require ironing from the inside out.

Dry Cleaning: Jere

Always take the Jere blazer to a professional dry cleaner, where it can be properly cleaned and pressed. This helps the garment maintain its shape for as long as possible. Stains can be easily wiped off with a damp sponge or cloth.
